With the recent closures of Arizona's public lands because extreme fire restrictions, we thought it would be best to head east into New Mexico. Along the eastern edge of New Mexico is the nations first ever officially established wilderness area. This region is packed with seemingly undisturbed and endless amount of wildlife. I have done several sections of this route in the past but we spent a little time exploring some lesser traveled trails and eventually found a real gem. On our second day I rolled my ankle pretty good causing me to be more creative with some of my shots for the rest of the week. Monday's early morning coffee walk was a real eye opener when I ran into a very large black bear a mile or so into a canyon. I was able to scare it off before it really knew what I was. At least I've now seen all the big game the region has to offer. I highly recommend this area to anyone looking for a back country 4x4 experience, there are hundreds of miles of trails to explore with very few people around.
