Patients losing patience: Hospitals work to meet Middle Tennessee demand amid long wait times

Families searching for doctors are frustrated with waitlists, whether they're in a booming region or not. In the latest edition of Growing Nashville, FOX 17 News asks local providers about patients losing patience and digs deeper to find out how they are meeting the Middle Tennessee demand. From Montgomery County down through Middle Tennessee, patients are waiting a long time for appointments with doctors. AMN Healthcare released a study in May finding wait times are up 19% since 2022 and 48% since 2004. Waits are even longer for specialists. “When I need to see a doctor, I need to see a doctor,” Heather McCall tells FOX 17 News. She has a 1-year-old at home in Nashville, dealing with delays for her and her son across multiple healthcare networks. McCall says at one point, her son was on a six-month waitlist for an operation. Babies tend to double in size in six months. That is precious time ticking. Her waiting woes began when she found out she was pregnant a couple years ago.
