Camping in America’s Last Lawless City + the Weirdest Beach Town Come along as I explore two of California’s strangest and most offbeat desert destinations: the surreal art-strewn ruins of Bombay Beach, and the widely known Slab City — often called “America’s Last Lawless City” and “The Last Free Place in America”. I start in Bombay Beach, a crumbling shoreline on the edge of the toxic Salton Sea filled with eerie sculptures, abandoned structures, and bizarre open-air installations. Then we dive into Slab City, a truly off-grid, rule-free desert community where I camp twice — once in a tent, and once in a converted school bus (aka skoolie) with friends! We share stories and footage from our two (very different) camping experiences in Slab City. AND.. share what life is really like in this lawless and free desert town.
