THOMAS STRUTH. New German Photography Now available on vimeo on demand!! https://vimeo.com/ondemand/thomasstruth The German artist Thomas Struth studied first painting with Gerhard Richter and switched into the class of Bernd Becher at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf. Nowadays he is renowned for his practice of creating singular images, each within strictly segregated subject fields: architecture, portraiture, landscape and, most recently, sites of technological and scientific research. This documentary explores in depth diverse strands of Struth’s enquiry, whilst also elaborating the interstices between them, to present the most significant current monograph of the artist’s work. This documentary accompanied Thomas Struth between 2000 and 2018 at his Duesseldorf studio, in Paris, Aachen, Essen, Berlin and at least in Basel, where he did present his recent work "Animals" for the first time. The basic film (33min.) was first published in 2012 for the RAFF Festival in Toronto and Calgary and was selected for the 7. Biennale Lanzarote. After filming again with Thomas Struth at the installation of his exhibition "Nature & Politics" at Museum Folkwang in 2016 and at the Art Basel in 2018, we decided to make a "Director's Cut" by Ralph Goertz. The film is part of the Collection of the Getty Institute Los Angeles and was screened at Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Martin-Gropius-Bau Berlin, High Museum of Art Atlanta and Saint Louis Art Museum. Director's Cut by Ralph Goertz Duration: ca. 40min.
