Many minstrels that followed him referenced his horrific execution in their songs to call for justice. Ela Gözlü Pirim Geldi is one of these. The original poet, Shah İsmail (pen name Shah Hatayi), was the founder of the Safavid State – a Turkmen empire established in today's Iran in the 15th and 16th centuries. Shah İsmail engaged in combat with one of the most powerful Ottoman emperors, Yavuz Sultan Selim, at the Battle of Chaldiran in 1514, but was unsuccessful in gaining control of the conflict, or Anatolia. During this time, Shah İsmail lured Turkmen over from the Ottoman lands via songs and poems. For them, joining the Safavid Empire was a stand against the Ottomans. This song expresses that those who are brave like Seyid Imadeddin Nesimi will be called to the battlefield!
