JMC is the latest in a series of commands since World War II that have managed the nation's ammunition plants. Since 1973, those commands have been headquartered at Rock Island Arsenal. The headquarters is responsible for munitions production and storage facilities in numerous states and for the Chemical Materials Agency. The command employs 19 military personnel, more than 5,400 Army civilians, and more than 5,900 contractors nationwide throughout the organic industrial base. JMC’s processes provide for the efficient delivery of ammunition at the right place and time to support global operations. JMC positions munitions around the world to facilitate rapid transition to armed conflict and to support Combatant Commander requirements. The command focus is on readiness, lethality, and warfighting capabilities – vital elements in restoring our warrior ethos and deterring conflict to defeat our enemies.
