Not my usual content, I know, but I've heard that the Super Bowl is coming to Metallica's hometown once again in 2026. The people have been asking for Metallica to play the halftime show for YEARS, so if they were to ever do it, personally I think next year would be the last opportunity for them to do so. So, I created a mock set of what I think they'd play. Obviously, some songs could be replaced with others, but I think this is the best I could've come up with. The mock set is a bit longer than a traditional halftime show, but it's Metallica, so what? Gonna add a little bit of reasoning behind the songs I chose, cause why not? I wanted the set to try and mirror what their current live set's consist of, in somewhat chronological order: 1. Creeping Death: They tend to open with this song, and it's a solid opener to begin with. 2/3. 72 Seasons/Lux Æterna: Obviously, since it's technically a promotional tour for the album, they put a couple new songs into their current sets, typically starting with 72 Seasons or Lux Æterna, so having these songs back to back makes sense. 4. Enter Sandman: I'm gonna be honest, I wanted to throw one of their ballads in here. Their live sets usually have a ballad right after the songs from 72 seasons, but most halftime shows are 15 minutes, and Metallica's songs are long, so I couldn't find a good spot for one. So I skipped to the end of their sets, and Enter Sandman is one of their biggest hits, so it's gotta be in there somewhere, right? 5/6. Seek and Destroy/Master of Puppets: Usually on one of their nights, they close their set with Seek and Destroy & Master of Puppets, so I figured here would be the perfect spot for those songs. 7. Fight Fire with Fire: This is a callback to the Kill/Ride Medley from the mid-90's that they played, in which they closed the medley with this song. If you wanna get technical, they finished the medley with the last couple measures of Ride the Lightning, but why would they tease that song without actually playing it? That, and it's a solid close to the whole set, so who cares? Some of the transitions between songs are a bit wonky, but I tried my best considering I'm using live performances, so there's no customized transitions that they'd probably do, and ignore callouts to whatever city/festival they're at in some of the clips.
