Community Immunity is achieved when a critical portion of the population is immunized. When the vast majority of us are vaccinated against the flu, most members of the community are protected against the flu because there is little opportunity for the virus to spread. For community immunity to work, each of us who can receive flu vaccine, must get vaccinated every year. Some people in your community are vulnerable because they are at greater risk of flu-related complications and death or cannot receive flu vaccine, and you cannot tell who they are by looking at them.
