Join us for an informative and collaborative session where we will discuss our current findings and future plans for DESP! Nearly one billion pounds of clothing are discarded in Canada each year — much of it still reusable or recyclable. Poor donation practices strain charities, increase landfill waste, and contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. Thanks to the generous funding of the CRD"s Rethink Waste Grant, Threading Change’s Donation Etiquette Study Project (DESP) in Victoria is exploring how clearer guidance, community education, and donor-friendly interventions can improve donation quality, reduce waste, and support local charities. This webinar details more about the DESP project, exploring how sustainable donation practices make a real environmental difference, and discusses how you can get involved. Important note: We would like to acknowledge and apologize for the typo made on the slide at 19 minutes into this recording. It should say 500,000 tonnes/500 million kg of textile waste going into Canadian landfills, not 500,000 million kg.
