En janvier 2006, Ousama Ben Laden dans un enregistrement audiovisuel, exhortait les américains à lire cet ouvrage, afin de mieux comprendre leur ennemi. L'ouvrage de Blum fut traduit dans 17 langues . De 2001 à 2002 il fut journaliste du magazine The Ecologist qui est édité à Londres et distribué dans le monde entier. English version William Blum left the State Department in 1967, abandoning his aspiration of becoming a Foreign Service Officer, because of his opposition to what the United States was doing in Vietnam. Mr. Blum's book on U.S. foreign policy, "Killing Hope: U.S. Military and CIA Interventions Since World War II", first published in 1995 and updated since, has received international acclaim.
