One Hour With Europe - Manuel Aleixo

Each year, the European Commission launches its new Work Programme, outlining its strategies and planned legislative actions for the coming year. This year’s Programme has been titled “Europe’s Independence Moment”, delineating the main challenges Europe faces and solutions on which R&I can be of increasing importance. 2026 will be an intensive year on the research and innovation front. The Commission Work Programme touches on a total of 38 legislative initiatives across seven major topics, where notable headlining initiatives include the European Innovation Act, the Quantum Act, the European Research Area Act and the Advanced Materials Act. How does these, and other legislative actions in the R&I domain, function in the wider Commission strategy for 2026? and how are they going to shape the current discussion regarding framework 10 and ECF? In this edition of the One Hour With Europe, we are joined by Manuel Aleixo, Cabinet Expert in DG RTD – that will provide us with an answer to this question as well as an analysis of the holistic approach the Commission is taking in order to approach the issues present in Europe today.
