This, along with parts 2 and 3, comprise all of the TWC coverage I've recorded relating to the Groundhog Day Blizzard of 2011, a historic snowstorm which will join the annals of the great winter storms of American history. The coverage extends from the first coverage I recorded on February 1, to the last coverage I recorded on February 3 that was focused on the Groundhog Day storm. After the last clip the storms that quickly followed that event were the main focus, and by that time the bulk of the system had moved out to sea anyway. The local forecast week ahead screen that is seen occasionally turned out to be mostly bogus. The period comprising February 2, 2011 to February 11, 2011 was the best week of weather in my entire life (as of July 2012) as a hardcore fan of snow and cold. The models and forecasts were very inaccurate, and the whole week ended up much more intense winter weather-wise than you see forecasted here. As an example, Monday ended up being near freezing all day with 6 inches of wet snow at my house just outside Clarksville, when just a 45 degree slushy mix was predicted. Conversely Sunday was warmer than predicted, at 50 degrees, but that was the only warmer-than-initially-forecast day of the week. Tuesday's low was also colder than 20 degrees and there were only a couple of flurries blowing around from the previous snow (that preceded the powdery sub-20 degree snow of February 9, 2011 which was tied for my favorite of the whole year along with the December 12, 2010 snowstorm that featured near-blizzard conditions) The winds were also generally more intense than predicted, especially on Friday. Relive the thrill. Relive the chill. Relive the Groundhog Day Blizzard. Enjoy it, and be sure to check out parts 2 and 3.
