Optimism is not just the stuff of fairy tales. Fierce optimism is the rocket fuel for mission-aligned movements for community transformation. Against all odds, stand firm with your optimism – because it’s good for you and even better for us! What do you want people to learn from your talk? Never apologize for being an optimist. Anger and optimism are not mutually exclusive; in fact, this may be the most powerful combination. Optimism is good for you individually and even better for us as a community. Every child, regardless of the circumstances of birth, deserves to believe in a future full of possibility. In this community, we should be fiercely optimistic about achieving our goals related to economic mobility because we’re already climbing mountains together. What action items do you want people to take away from your talk? Understand the power of optimism to improve health and quality of life. Discover your personal passion and connect it with a broader movement for community transformation. Engage in the community by volunteering and voting. Share your abundant social capital well beyond your inner circle. Be optimistic about our community’s ability, with your support, to create change that is meaningful and enduring. Dianne Chipps Bailey leads nonprofit consulting nationally for US Trust, a division of Bank of America. She believes in the power of nonprofits to positively impact our world by advancing education, improving health and elevating our shared humanity. Her one true love among local nonprofits is the Women’s Impact Fund. She is grateful to be one of the original 158 members. Her passion for women’s leadership in philanthropy extends to the Women’s Philanthropy Institute national council, for which she serves as Vice Chair. A recovering lawyer, for nearly twenty years Dianne represented nonprofit organizations in all aspects of their organization and administration. Dianne is a faithful community leader, previously chairing the boards of the Women’s Impact Fund, Discovery Place, Mecklenburg Bar Foundation, Presbyterian Hospital Foundation, Women Executives and First Presbyterian Church Diaconate, where she also served as an Elder. Dianne has mixed feelings about the awards industry but has found great joy in nominating amazing friends for well-deserved honors. She also has been recognized for her civic leadership. In 2018, she received the Leadership Charlotte Schley Circle of Excellence award, which is presented annually to a graduate who has demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities. In 2015, Dianne was named The Mecklenburg Times Woman of the Year.
