A special thank you to Sarah, Julie, and Christy for whipping us a special video for us today about meals that enslaved people may have been eating in 18th century Tidewater Virginia. The recipes come from two modern sources, Imma from Immaculate Bites and Michael Twitty from Afroculinaria. Since 18th century written records can sometimes be hard to find, the recipes that Sarah, Julie, and Christy are using today blend modern African recipes with historical records and knowledge of food sources available to enslaved peoples living in York County, Virginia.
