As I was leaving a very enjoyable session on friday evening, a friend started to play this tune on her recorder and she was quickly joined by the remaining musicians. I recorded the tune on my phone before leaving and then went to learn a little more about this interesting melody, which I had never heard before. There so many melodies in the various Playford books and dances, it's difficult to learn them all. Then on Saturday, I listened to Dave Swarbrick's recording, which I really enjoyed and decided to play his version. In fact, it differs from the original as collected and notated in the Playford Collection of tunes. Instead of being in the key of Bb Major, Dave played it in the key of G. So I decided to go with that as well, as it is a more friendly key for melodeons which are generally found in English folk music sessions. Anyway, on and off over the weekend, whenever I could escape from the family for a short while, I managed to record my version, which I hope you enjoy listening to. Here is the notation.
