In this video Eing and I took the weekend express train from Bangkok to Pattaya. The journey lasted 2.5 hours, and the train station in Bangkok was luckily just 10 minutes from the house by motorcycle taxi. So would I recommend the train? Well we just went on a day trip to Pattaya. So bearing this in mind, the answer is that if you can't drive a car in Thailand, then I think it's a good option. Also, if you plan to not move around much when you get to Pattaya then it's ok. One option would be to rent a motorbike when you get to Pattaya. But by the time you've purchased two round trip train tickets, gotten a song taew from the train station to pattaya, and rented a bike, you may as well have rented a Ora Good Cat EV from Sixt Car Rental, which runs like 1200 a day, and you can drop it off up to three hours late. Meaning if you were doing a day trip like us, you pick up it Friday night 6pm just before they close, wake up in the morning with the car already with you, then return it 9pm the following night. And it costs like 130 baht for the electricity. In any case, it was still a fun experience and one you might consider, especially if you're staying Pattaya for longer than a day.
