Ahvaz City Situated in the southwest of Iran on the banks of the Karun River and in the middle of Khuzestan Province lies the city of Ahvaz, and old city with rich civilization, known as the city of bridges. Being an oil center, a transportation hub, and an industrial city with flourishing industries, it occupies an area of more than 200 square kilometers. Known as the Land of the Sun, it is terribly hot and humid in summer. The best time for traveling to Ahwaz and the whole Khuzestan province is from January to late April. At present Ahvaz plays an important role regarding the cultural, economic and industrial fields in Iran as well as being one of the highly populated areas of the province. The fantastic Karun River is flowing in the middle of the city adding to the beauty of the township. It is the longest river in Iran that rises in the Zagros Mountain range and flows south to the Arvand on the Iraqi border. Of the famous bridges on the river, the Railway Bridge and Suspension Bridge must be mentioned. The modern part of Ahwaz, the administrative and industrial center, is on the right bank of the Karun River but the population is still concentrated in the old section on the left bank. By strolling on the banks of Karun, seeing the nice bridges and having corn, one can experience relaxing moments. Of the attractions of the city, Dadras House, Nafisi House and Moin Monument are of great importance. Date and cookies are considered as the main souvenirs which can be found in the Ahvaz traditional bazaar.
