The 2025 DVMISSION 48 Hour Film Challenge celebrated its 20th birthday by inviting challengers to dive into our immersive storyworld “Corsets, Tights, Cameras, Action!” at The Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth. DVMISSION is a 48-hour film competition based on the south coast of the UK that has for the last 20 years been challenging filmmakers to get creative and join a local community of media makers. Having just staged our 20th edition we can stake a claim to being the longest, continuously running 48-hour film challenge in the UK. How does it work - we give challengers a line of dialogue, a title and a genre and they make a 2-minute film in 48 hours. We then get our judges to award the coveted Pompey Oscars for 16 categories of prizes. For 2025 DVMISSION celebrated its 20th anniversary by teaming up with Portsmouth’s year-long festival of literature and literacy ‘In Our Words’ curated by Portsmouth Creates and giving out a unique set of obstructions. This year’s obstructions were: • Title: Choose your own! • Genre: Carry on Costume Drama • Protagonist: must be seen reading a book • Line of Dialogue: “The breaking of so great a thing should make a greater crack” or “In time we hate that which we often fear.” • Added obstruction for previous award winners: a ballroom scene • Special shout out: for any film that passes the Bechdel test We asked teams to post their behind the scenes photos and videos using the hashtag #DVMISSION25 and you can use this hashtag on any social media channel to see the results. For this year’s DVMISSION screening and awards event we returned to The Wedgewood Rooms for a real-life event on Saturday 8th March 2025 and staged an amazingly glittering gala awards night.
