When talking about modern, intractable conflicts, there is one conflict which likely comes to mind more than any other as being unparalleled with regard to its length, as well as its level of controversy and divisiveness, and that is the Israel Palestine conflict. While this conflict had previously, primarily taken place between Israel and surrounding nations, in 1987 the Palestinians themselves would engage in an uprising, known as the "1st Intifada". This would ultimately culminate in interim peace agreements between Israel and the Palestinian Liberation Organization, known as the Oslo Accords. The failure of these agreements to produce a permanent solution to the conflict would inevitably result in conflict between Israel and the Palestinians reigniting, in what is known as the "2nd Intifada".
