After he left Gibson, he opened the Guild acoustic guitar division for Fender Guitar Corporation and later Shadow Guitars. He is now building guitars exclusively in his own name with his children Tim Ferguson and Virginia Staples at their own company - The Ren Ferguson Guitar Company - in Montana.
