Tripuri suffered from gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, the most common gastrointestinal disorder in the U.S., since 2007. It gave her heartburn, made her cough and caused excessive belching, which affected her ability to work and do the things she enjoyed, such as hiking and swimming. She finally had an endoscopy and learned she also had a “slight” hernia. Treatment with medication did not bring relief, and her symptoms became so severe that she quit her job as a pharmacist.
