In a fireside chat with Sara Blanchard, Alberto Nobis and Jackie Henry discussed wellbeing from the perspective of leaders in business. 85% of employees are not engaged in the workplace. However, the evidence is clear: more engagement and retention in employees leads to happier customers and increased profitability. Leaders have the responsibility to support people in being the best version of themselves and maximizing their potential. Alberto Nobis shared that if leaders do not have a clear purpose, they will not be able to convince people to follow them. It is not enough to have a mission statement written down, they need to follow their word with actions and be a role model. Jackie Henry stressed that organizations need to be clear on their purpose to be able to make an impact that matters and show up each day with their values front and center. How do you know when you have a successful purpose? Jackie Henry suggested measuring purpose using measurement tools and surveys. Alberto Nobis said, “If the purpose is working, you have happier people and happier customers.” Leaders should check in with their employees and customers everyday and talk to them to see if they are happy, and understand and measure why or why not.
