Invited to a Medieval Dig Near Barnard Castle | Fog, History & Honest Metal Detecting

I drove two hours through thick fog to a special permission near Barnard Castle after being kindly invited by a lovely detecting group. This land is believed to be part of an old medieval area, with hammered coins and history reported in the past, so hopes were high. Diggy came along for luck again, and despite the weather turning wet and the field being absolutely massive, it was a day I really enjoyed. There were buttons, lead, a few interesting signals, and plenty of atmosphere — fog, rain, old trees, sheep, and that feeling you get when you’re standing somewhere with real history under your feet. Sometimes the finds don’t come to you, but the experience still does. A big thank you to the True North Detecting group for the invite and for being so welcoming.
