Thank you to everyone for your continued support for the Month of Insanity. More episodes are to follow, but this is more of a tutorial or idea generating video for anyone interested in taking their own motorcycle trip. (Please read the description below before watching) *This is not an entertainment video* The Month of Insanity wasn't executed off the cuff or at the last minute. I spent several months planning and gathering needed resources before executing the trip in early June. Note: This is NOT the only way to plan a motorcycle trip and I do not advertise myself as an expert on the subject. The beauty of riding a motorcycle is the freedom to plan and ride as you see fit. In the end, your trip should be done in a manner best suited to your needs and your goals. The purpose of this video is to give you some background into the trip planning as a means of giving you a starting point or additional ideas. Sometimes the hardest part of the journey is the first few steps, and I hope to show you one possible method of taking them. I talk about a few things in this video including planning goals, determining total time available, looking at possible distance traveled in a single day, as well as assessing risks and deciding of your route. I did not discuss budgets for the trip since most often your budget will be decided by your plan OR your plan will be decided by your budget. Also, I did not discuss plans for lodging as that is also very specific (hotels, friends, camping etc) to your trip. Please leave comments or ask questions and I will do my best to offer my opinion. In the end, your trip should be yours but get out there and DO it! Additional Notes: Planning your packing: I don't think I touched on planning what to take with you as well as what to take regarding luggage. The biggest difference with respect to luggage is going to be the bike you are taking. Some bikes have multiple hard bags allowing you to easily configure and pack your bike. In my case, the R1 has no factory locations for luggage and thus required a more universal system. I wanted something I could easily dismount and ride without because I would be riding at my destinations. It had to be waterproof as well since I would be taking a laptop and other electronics. I decided on the US series from Kriega as it could be mounted on any bike and was totally water proof. In terms of packing, a lot of comes down to the length of the trip as well as your needs along the way. The one packing item that didn't make it into my trip was rain gear. I knew there was a good chance I would face rain, but it was an accepted risk and one I didn't feel like trying to mitigate. It did bite me a bit, however it's likely the same result would have happened even with proper gear. The constant advice I was given was I would likely pack too much on my first trip and that experience will teach you what you need and what you really don't. There is obviously always the option to buy things when you get to your destination, but it comes down to the cost of luggage vs. the cost of buying items you'll likely discard at your destination. Buying a new $200 bag to carry $20 worth of items doesn't seem like a good investment unless those items are impossible to find on the road. Those are the kinds of considerations to make. With respect to luggage, DO A TEST PACK. I did two different packing tests prior to my trip which was a huge saver. Don't assume you have enough luggage space. Pack as though you're leaving the next day and see if you can fit everything. If not, you either need to find more luggage space or take less stuff. In my case, I opted to purchase additional luggage. You might find you have too much luggage space and can leave something home. ~-~~-~~~-~~-~ Please watch: "Lets Talk About Nicky Hayden and Manchester - Flashwing Vlog #6" • Lets Talk About Nicky Hayden and Mancheste... ~-~~-~~~-~~-~
