The Best Character in IT: Welcome To Derry

The prequel series to the hit movies from a few movies ago comes through hitting it out of the park itself, from the story to the characters, and we're here today to talk about the one specific character, portrayed perfectly by Chris Chalk: Dick Hallorann. For those cultured ones among us who know this name, we know him from The Shining and Doctor Sleep. I had no idea he actually featured in the novel too, so hearing he was going to be in this show was a legitimate surprise. I feared it may just be a case of teasing us with Shining easter eggs but quite the contrary. His role in the show is vital and acted so insanely well, growing the list of Scatman Crothers and Carl Lumbly who portray the character to perfection, we have the luxury of Chris Chalk's portrayal being even more involved and active within the narrative as in 1962 he was a part of the military. The inclusion of Hallorann and therefore The Shine was an excellent decision and why I want to discuss the amazingly done character arc he goes on through this show.
