During a presidential rally at Rwamucucu Playground in Rukiga District on Friday, local leaders expressed deep concern over the long-standing pledges made by President Yoweri Museveni that remain unfulfilled. Despite the various achievements and services provided to Rukiga District since its establishment in 2017, leaders continue to urge the president to fulfill the remaining commitments aimed at boosting the district's economy. As part of his regional tour in the Kigezi sub-region, President Museveni concluded his visit with a rally in Rukiga District. Hon. Caroline Kamusime, the Woman MP for Rukiga, welcomed and thanked the president for organizing the rally. She acknowledged the progress of the Parish Development Model (PDM) and its positive impact on the people of Rukiga. However, she also raised key challenges affecting the district, including the lack of electricity and land disputes involving local residents. she called on the government to fulfill the pledge of tarmacking the Muhanga-Kisizi road and compensating the claimants of Shebeya Playground to secure it for the district. Hon. Roland Ndomugyenyi Bish commended President Museveni for his efforts in developing Rukiga but emphasized the district's continued need for support. He urged the president to establish an institutional school in Rukiga, noting that it remains the only district in the entire Kigezi region without one. He also highlighted the poor state of several roads, particularly reminding the president of the unfulfilled 2016 pledge to tarmac the Rutoobo-Kamwezi-Kyoogo-Muhanga road. Hon. Bish called on the government to compensate the people of Kamwezi, who lost property during the 1994 Rwandan genocide due to their proximity to the border. In response, President Museveni acknowledged the challenges faced in Rukiga and promised to take action as soon as possible. He urged residents to focus on family-based and household income generation as the key to economic survival and development. The president emphasized that while development is for everyone, individual well-being depends on personal effort. He encouraged people to make proper use of PDM funds to strengthen their household economies, taking advantage of the prevailing peace to improve their livelihoods. The rally in Rukiga highlighted both the achievements and the gaps in the district’s development. As the leaders and the local residents await action on these unfulfilled pledges, the focus remains on leveraging existing programs like PDM to drive sustainable progress and household incomes
