I used a Santorini stone, but you can use any smooth natural stone by base coating with chalk paint or white gesso so the watercolor pencils have a base to adhere to. Using the normal watercolor palettes is a little intimidating to me, so I love using these watercolor pencils to create designs because I feel a little more controlled when I use them. Watercolor pencils work just like regular color pencils--the only difference I see is that they are more soft, so if you push to hard you can break the tip off.
