There are a growing number of people claiming that greed is causing inflation. Some are even using the term "greedflation" for this phenomenon. So, is greed causing inflation? No. #greedflation #inflation #economics #teachecon In this video, we discuss how companies indeed are greedy, just like consumers. We watch a short Milton Friedman clip where he's discussing greed and analyze the flaws in the "greed causes inflation" arguments. The two biggest issues with greedflation claims - if you believe greed causes inflation you generally would have to believe that companies have become more greedy recently or some other major factor has changed. Also, when prices drop you'd have to make the argument that companies are becoming less greedy. None of these seem likely. Prices change for a host of reasons, but greed is not causing inflation.
