Zambia Exports 70,000 Metric Tons of Maize to Malawi

NAIS-Government has so far exported about 70,000 metric tons of maize to Malawi out of the 200,000 metric tons under the government-to-government agreement. Ministry of Agriculture Permanent Secretary for Technical Services John Mulongoti has, however, expressed concern over the slow pace of transportation and directed officers and institutions involved to accelerate the process. Speaking during a visit to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) main depot in Chipata and the Mwami Border Post to assess the maize exportation process, Mr. Mulongoti noted that on average, only 50 trucks are cleared at the border per day, which he described as unsatisfactory.
