i made this a year ago and, to this day, i have not played saint spoilers, obviously the amazing cover i used is by noxturne:    • the fall - lovejoy (cover)   you should check this person s stuff out, it s all really cool (especially the original music, seriously so underrated) so i should probably explain what s going on- i call this "kinda an au" because it s based off of an actual interpretation of canon but a lot of it is stuff i made up to make it more Dramatic and stuff so this is based on the idea that saint was actually an echo the whole time and their whole campaign is a weird echo dream thing that they re cursed to live through over and over because they were too proud in life or whatever- my personal belief is that the intro cutscene of the campaign shows their original ascension (they had to have had a real life at some point, tried to ascend, failed and turned into an echo, so that s what this is), and instead of where the slugcats usually see their family and stuff like that (kind of impling that it shows them whatever they want the most), saint sees the 10 karma symbol; so i think that their sin that they got echoed for was that they wanted too much to ascend- somehow, in life, they were so obsessed with that idea that they were denyed it. so now they live over and over, getting the power that they always wanted, but never for themselves! :D the artistic interpretation (stuff i made up for this animatic because i thought it was cool) goes as follows: saint used to live in the scug colony (maybe not survivor and monk s scug colony, they moved away (i didn t know that when i made this). maybe another one moved in at some point, idk. anyways-), still far into the future (they re all fluffy scugs, because the thought that slugcats as a species are still alive and well and have all evolved to be fluffy brings me joy), but they were just a normal scug. at some point tho, saint, for some reason don t ask me how, figured out that "wait. we don t die. wtf what s up with that" (like when you turn 4 and suddenly become self aware but for the concept of death) and he became really obsessed with this and the colony was like "wtf dude chill it s not that deep" and eventually saint leaves their home to try to figure out this death thing. they wander around a bit, meet moon and pebbles (can t really talk to them tho, neither of them s really in any state to give the mark of communication at this point), meet the echoes and eventually stumbles into the depths (which are just normal because i have Thoughts about what rubicon is but we ll get there), where the void worm is like "dude. you could have lived with your family very happily what are you doing here" and then saint wakes up and basically their campaign goes down. yeah, as i said, none of this is real, at this point saint is an echo and dreaming all of this. the dream is based on what saint remembers but also their mind making things up (like the power to just ascend things exists because in saint s delusional little mind he deserves it) and instead of being like "that was a weird dream" and going about their life, saint once again goes to talk to the echoes and try to ascend because he s just Like That. when they reach the depths tho, the illusion starts to break (this is why i think the depths are gone in the saint campaign, the void eroding it technically makes sense but i ve always found it weird. no. in my mind saint just starts waking up a little bit, and rubicon is either saint trying to go back to their dream but their real situation (being in the void) is starting to corrupt it, or rubicon is straight up the land of echoes, and everything looks so stitched together because it s random barely remembered memories holding it together), and saint thinks they re gonna do it, they re gonna ascend and prove everyone wrong, the other scugs, the void worm, everyone, but nope. they wake up for a brief moment (which is what i take them turning into an echo at the end of their campaign to be) and then go back to sleep, and live throught what they remember of their life again. and again, and again, forever. so! that is saint the fall. my masterpiece, truly i peaked with this one- this was my summer project last year, it absolutely consumed my life for those two months i worked on it and i was really proud of how it came out! looking back on it the art isn t. that great and the editing could be so much better but hey. i was really proud of it and the world deserves to see the unhinged little green cat. hope you enjoyed also yes i am aware of the.. situation with the person who wrote and originally sang this song. obviously i don t support that shit. that s why i used a cover. i made this last year before i (or anyone, really) knew about that and at the time i just thought it was a neat song. i want the world to see this animatic tho, because as i said i was very proud of it when i made it. be mad at me if you want, i guess
