Dr. Sam Shanee of Neotropical Primate Conservation (NPC) shares what is known about primate hunting and trafficking in the Neotropics. Following his talk, there is discussion about ways people can get involved to help. Then, Hayley Pavis and Gabriella Pereira, from the Wild Sun rescue center in Costa Rica discuss how primates that come to the center injured, sick or orphaned are cared for with the hopes to be released back into their local habitats. They share ways that people can volunteer or complete research-based internships. Dr. Marilyn Norconk and Dr. Sylvia Atsalis of the American Society of Primatologists share about the Keep 'em Wild campaign that seeks to deter people from having primates as pets and highlights the need for greater legislation to protect captive primates in the United States. Donations made to the American Society of Primatologists Conservation Committee go directly toward funding conservation-based projects around the world that positively benefit primates in the wild.
