Version 3.5 Setup: Apple MacBook Pro 2026 finish "Citrus" 256 GB version with macOS Tahoe 26.3.2 Apple Logic Pro 12.0.1 Apple MainStage 4.0 During all the tests the laptop runs on battery with just a MIDI keyboard connected via the USB 2.0 port. Audio was captured in realtime with QuickTime directly from the laptop's internal output via the loopback driver "BlackHole" from existential audio: https://existential.audio/blackhole/ In QuickTime high quality audio was chosen which captures audio to high quality AIFC format. The caputured AIFC audio files then later on were imported into Logic Pro and from there exported as 24bit WAV files for the video, where the audio was mixed with a tad bit of the (noisy) camera microphone audio to be able to also hear the mouse and key clicks. This tad bit of camera mic noise unfortunately gets amplified in gaps by the new "Stable Audio" feature in YouTube which is activated by default. Monitoring while playing was done just with the MacBook's internal speakers. MacBook's internal audio sent via BlackHole loopback driver to QuickTime for realtime capturing. Logic Pro reported a roundtrip latency of 10.0 ms (output 5.4 ms). But you'll have repeated audio breaks and after 20 minutes of use you must quit and re-launch the sequencer for another 20 minutes. You also can check out all featured sounds in the demo versions. Our verdict: We bought the laptop just out of curiosity in order to check if our plugins work on the A18 Pro smartphone CPU to be able to pass this info to our customers if they should ask. And we were totally surprised by the gorgeous look and feel of this $599 laptop (EDU even cheaper!) and its unexpected totally rock solid and smooth performance in Logic and MainStage! It's about comparable to Apple's first M1 CPU. That's why we spontaneously decided to do a video showing it. We actually bought the MacBook right after its release out of curiosity. In our opinion especially this "Citrus" finish version which in reality looks like fine gold looks gorgeous and on top it's a real performer! But note that the laptop only has 8GB of RAM which might be too less if you use huge sample packs. Also it has no thunderbolt (only one USB3 and one USB2), so if you have a thunderbolt audio interface you can't use it. But of course USB audio interfaces. Plus the headphone output is as clean that you also simply can use this one if you don't need more than a stereo signal. Macs have low latency drivers (Core Audio) in the operating system itself, so you don't need ASIO drivers like in Windows. To run our plugins using internal audio or an USB interface this new low-price MacBook is top!
