Kanmani is a family drama directed by R.K.Selvamani starring Prasanth, Mohini, Jaishankar, Lakshmi, Sujatha, music by Ilaiyaraja. Advocate Gayathri (Lakshmi) is bent upon spoiling Asst. Commisioner Rajalakshmi's (Sujatha) career. She even frees a criminal from the clutches of law just to spite Rajalakshmi and her husband, a high court judge Rajashekar (Jaishankar). Kanmani (Mohini) is the spoilt daughter of Rajalakshmi and the Judge. She is a bully in her college and starts troubling Raja (Prashant) who is Advocate Gayathri's brother. Radha College chairman's (and the criminal introduced previously) daughter meanwhile likes Raja, but Kanmani keeps insulting Radha. Raja and Kanmani fight with each other by playing tricks and gags on each other and keep insulting each other. But once when the college rowdies misbehave with Kanmani, Raja fights them. Kanmani acts as though she has fallen in love with Raja, but she takes her revenge and accuses Raja of raping her. Raja tries to find the reason for the animosity between his sister and Kanmani's mother. Gayathri then tells him her flashback, that she was the one who was going to get married to Justice Rajashekhar, but her best friend Rajalakshmi cheats her and marries Justice Rajashekhar. Gayathri since then is taking revenge on Rajalakshmi. Kanmani now actually falls in love with Raja. But Gayathri fixes Raja's wedding with Radha (criminal's daughter).
