Misericords & Ancient Carvings

Here I present a close look at the medieval misericords that decorate the choir stalls at Great Malvern Abbey. The Carvings, which include the months of the year, scenes from Medieval life, their habits & beliefs, date from the mid to late 14th century. Together with a few of the figures that adorn the arm rests. I have not included the 19th century carvings that replaced a few of the missing misericords. To illustrate the story, I have included a number of references to "printed books". I have also included scenes from Continental Books of Hours. These were used to emphasis the story-line.
