For the time being, only 5 kms stretch is being opened i.e. from Salt Lake Stadium to Salt Lake Sector 5. In coming 2-3 months, Phoolbagan metro station is expected to become operational. This metro project has very exciting route same with the journey. A 600 meter stretch of this corridor is being built under Hooghly river which is 1st of it's own kind. The complete corridor will comprise 16 kms starting from Sector 5 to Salt Lake Stadium followed by Phoolbagan, Sealdah, Esplanade (North South Corridor) then finally Howrah Maidan via under the Hooghly river. The project is expected to be completed in 2021. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the new Metro Line on 13 Feb 2020. Commercial run was started from 14 Feb 2020. The platforms in this section have screen doors for safety. Fare for 2 kms is Rs. 5 and from 2-5 kms is Rs. 10. Currently, the frequency between 2 trains is 20 mins. Metro coaches which are used are BEML made which are very spacious and comfortable. The maximum speed of the train operation is 80 Kmph.
