Yorkshire Classic Pre unit Series round 3 Top Quarry 2nd Apr 2023

After the wettest March for years, it was inevitable that the ground at Top Quarry was going to be very challenging. In a growing trend, it was great to see over half the entry on 'Big Bikes'. The 10 sections set by Gary Marshal and Graham Wilkinson were varied and some on the light grass did not stand the test of the passage of the 50 riders and had to be changed after the first lap. The reed bed at 5 and the slippery climb at 6 were the most entertaining for spectators and took the most marks as can be seen on the video. The ride of the day was by early bird Mick Clarke (Ariel) losing only two for the day, the only pre-unit rider in single figures. Best of the twins was Paul Dennis out for his first trial on the Triumph twin losing 10. Katie Ward, Dave Ingram and newcomer Stewart Ormesher were the only big bikes under 30 along with David Wilkinson on the rigid Bantam on 24. As usual the lightweights made up the numbers and John Maxfield (Bantam) lost a single mark to top the leader board ahead of Tony Calvert (Cub) on 3. The excitement didn't end there as several vehicles had to be pushed, pulled or towed off the parking area. Thanks to Graham Wilkinson for bringing his Landrover to rescue those in trouble.
