Shiga Prefecture: A treasure trove of Japanese culture. Digest version (part 1) ("Koto Sanzan" etc)

As a resident of Hyogo Prefecture, I have compiled a digest of my favorite landmarks and historical sites in Shiga Prefecture. This is the first installment, featuring five locations. Since there are still many more wonderful spots to explore, I plan to continue with a second and third installment in the future. For this first edition, I introduced the three temples of Koto Sanzan: Saimyoji, Kongorinji, and Hyakusaiji. Following that, I highlighted the Traditional waterways tour and a firsthand experience of enjoying Omi beef yakiniku. Koto Sanzan is famous as a scenic spot for autumn foliage. During the peak season, it is crowded with tourists, making it difficult to film videos, so I adjusted the timing slightly for my shooting. Each of the temples in Koto Sanzan has its own unique character and charm. At Saimyoji and Kongorinji, I recorded the sound of the temple bells. Listening to the recordings, I could clearly hear the differences in the tones of the bells. At Saimyoji, an elderly couple was striking the temple bell, and I could clearly hear the difference between the sound produced by the husband and that of the wife. At Kongorinji, I had the chance to strike the bell myself, and I think it produced a beautiful sound. In the future, whenever I have the opportunity to strike a temple bell, I plan to record the sound as much as possible. This was my second time on the Traditional waterways tour, and every time I go, it reminds me of the boat scenes from the TV series Kenkakushobai (The Samurai I Loved). This time, I had the opportunity to closely observe the expert-level rowing technique of the boatman. Thanks to this experience, I feel that when I watch rowing scenes in period dramas on the "Jidaigeki Channel," I can now roughly tell whether the rowing technique is amateurish or professional. Recently, I haven’t had many opportunities to eat Yakiniku at restaurants, but I finally enjoyed it again after a long time. I was able to savor some delicious grilled meat. Of the famous places and historical sites introduced this time, only Hyakusaiji Temple has an individual video released. We plan to release the other videos one by one. Depending on the length and content of the videos filmed, we will release some individually or multiple videos together. If you want to see an overview of each famous place or historical site, we would like to make it possible for you to watch the digest version, and if you want to see more detail, you can watch the individual videos. 【Video Table of Contents】 0:00 Opening 2:05 Koto Sanzan Saimyoji Templ 8:05 Koto Sanzan Kongorinji Temple 14:10 Koto Sanzan Hyakusaiji Temple 18:30 Traditional Waterways Tour 25:30 Tasting Omi Beef Yakiniku 28:45 Ending Below are some recommended videos that have been released. 【 Hyakusaiji Temple Part 1.「Remake (Meddle Version)」】 Total time: about 28 minutes. Hyakusaiji Temple is currently a Tendai sect temple with over 1,400 years of history. It is famous for its autumn leaves in the fall. I have been there twice in the past on autumn leaf viewing tours, but this was my first time going during the season of fresh green leaves. The autumn leaves are nice, but I personally love the fresh green leaves of the maples.     • 百済寺(湖東三山)第一部(駐車場 ~ 仁王門)「リメイク(お節介版)」 Hyakus...   【Kishitsu Shrine that enshrines Baekje's 'Kishitsu Shusi')귀실신사】 Total time: about 14 minutes. This is a somewhat unusual shrine. While there are not a few shrines dedicated to individuals who came to Japan from the Korean Peninsula in ancient times, it is rare to hear of one that has a sister city relationship with a town in present-day South Korea. For this reason, it can be considered a valuable place. Onimusha Shrine, located in Hino Town, Shiga Prefecture, enshrines Onimusha Shūshi. Onimusha Shūshi, enshrined at this shrine, was a Baekje person who came to Japan after the defeat at the Battle of Baekgang (Hakusukinoe) in the Nara period.     • 百済の鬼室集斯を祀る 鬼室神社(きしつじんじゃ)(Kishitsu Shrine t...   【(A temple with a mysterious stone pagoda. Ishidoji Temple「Remake version.」)】 Total time: about 16 minutes. Ishidoji Temple in Shiga Prefecture is a Tendai Buddhist temple, and within its grounds are tens of thousands of stone towers and stone Buddhas, centered around a three-story stone tower called Ashoka Tower. The three-story stone tower is a huge granite structure about 7.5 meters tall, making it the largest and oldest stone tower in Japan, and it is designated as an Important Cultural Property."     • 謎の石塔のあるお寺 石塔寺(日本語)「リメイク版」(A temple with a ...   #Japanese Culture #Shiga Prefecture #Temple #Shrine #Castle Ruins #OmiBeef #WatersideTours #Omihachiman City #HigashiOmi City #Hino Town #Nagahama City #Hikone City
