Dr. Karmel S. Shehadeh joins the USC Viterbi School as a WiSE Gabilan Assistant Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE). Before joining USC, she was an Assistant Professor of ISE at Lehigh University. She holds a Ph.D. in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan, an M.S. in Systems Science and Industrial Engineering from Binghamton University, and a B.S.E in Biomedical Engineering from Jordan University of Science and Technology. Her research program aims to push the boundaries of the theory and applications of optimization under uncertainty. Her research has solved challenging real-world optimization problems across diverse application domains, including healthcare, facility location, humanitarian logistics, transportation, and fairness-promoting optimization. She’s published her work in top-tier journals, including Operations Research, Transportation Science (TS), European Journal of Operational Research, Naval Research Logistics, and Transportation Research Part C (TR-C). Her work has been recognized by the INFORMS Minority Issues Forum (MIF) Early Career Award, an MIF Paper Award, a Junior Faculty Interest Group (JFIG) Paper Prize, a Service Science Best Cluster Paper Prize, and Lehigh's Alfred Noble Robinson Faculty Award. She serves as an associate editor for four top-tier journals, Vice President of Communications of the INFORMS Section on Public and Societal Operations Research, Vice President of the INFORMS Section on Location Analysis (SOLA), and President of JFIG.
