EYEMAX MONO THE AMD IOL. First video implant femto assisted cataract surgery - Dr. Bellone Dr A. Bellone (Italy) implanted an EyeMax mono: the new extended macula lens for patient affected by stabilized age-related macular degeneration. IolAMD EyeMax mono is a lens designed to be implanted in the eyes of patients affected by problems with their macula. The macula is the part of the retina responsible for vision in the centre of the visual field. The most common cause of damage to the macula is age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Eyemax surgery is exactly the same as standard cataract surgery, in this case has been performed with femto laser. Eyemax is indicated for patients who have lost vision as a consequence of macular disease however it may also offer benefits to those with normal vision but who are high risk of developing visual loss such as age-related macular degeneration. The Eyemax combines the benefits of a telescope creating magnification of about 20 to 30% but more importantly it extends the brain’s ability to use any part of the macula as though it is the best part. It is important to understand that the Eyemax extended macula lens is a relatively new device and the extent to which a condition such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) affects individual patients varies greatly.
