Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2022 Ford escape, we're gonna be showing you how to install the Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver. But before we do that, why don't we check it out, and make sure that this is gonna work for you. When it comes to the Escape, they're a pretty popular SUV. You see a lot of them out on the road. Which, in turn, means people are gonna use them to do a lot of different things. And so having a hitch back here is really gonna open up your opportunities on what you can do with the Escape, whether you're trying to use a bike rack, or a cargo carrier, you're gonna be able to. Or even if you plan on pulling a trailer around, you're gonna be able to put in your ball mount here and do some towing. But that said, if it we're me, and I was looking for a hitch for the Escape, I'd want something that would look decent, too. These actually have some pretty sporty lines and look good. So I really wouldn't want a hitch that would hang down on the bottom and be super noticeable. And that's really not the case with this one. For the most part, it's gonna be completely hidden. And really the only thing you're gonna be able to see is the receiver tube opening. I do wanna address one of the questions that we get asked quite often, and that is, is this hitch going to interfere with the hands-free lift gate assist, if you have it And in our case today, it still works perfectly. Actually, it's actually still really sensitive. You're just gonna have to kick your foot to either side of the hitch and everything will open up like it should. With this being a Class III hitch, it is gonna have that two-inch by two-inch receiver tube opening. And this is a super common size. So a lot of different stuff is gonna work with it. The end, there's a reinforced collar for a little bit of extra support. And it is going to use that standard 5/8 pin and clip. Keep in mind though, pin and clip doesn't come included. If you need one, not really a big deal. You can always grab it here at etrailer. The safety chain openings are gonna be a loop style, and they're gonna give us plenty of space to use just about any size hook that our trailer might have. So I'm gonna give you a couple of measurements and you can use these to help figure out which hitch-mounted accessories to get. From the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening, that's gonna be about 13 inches. So if you do plan on pulling a trailer around, chances are pretty good you're gonna need to get a ball mount that has a rise in the shank. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear bumper, that's gonna be about five inches, and you can use that measurement to help figure out if any folding accessories you might have can be stored in that upright position without contacting the back bumper. But other than that, at the end of the day, nice hitch, it's gonna get the job done and look pretty good. But other than that, hopefully this video kinda clears some things up for you and answers a couple of your questions and gets you going in the right direction. As far as the installation goes, really not too bad. Actually, you do have to lower the exhaust down some, but that's pretty typical, just about any vehicle, honestly. But you lower that down and everything's easy to get to, and really shouldn't give you too many issues. With that said, though, why don't we go ahead and put the hitch on together now To begin our installation, we're gonna be underneath the bottom of our Escape here. And what we need to do is let the exhaust come down a little ways. That way we have the room and space we need to get our hitch out. So before we actually lower it, what I like to do is just take a strap, and just run it from side to side. That way we can kind of control how fast and how far you let that exhaust come down. To let the exhaust come down, we're gonna have a hanger just like this, on each side of your vehicle. And to get them loose, you can spray them down with some type of lubricant, or even soapy water will work. You can take a pry bar, or big screwdriver, or whatever you got, and we're just gonna pry one end of it off. And I'll simply do the same exact thing on the other side. Then once those are loose, I think we should be able to loosen up our strap and let the exhaust come down a little ways. What we can do now, is along this bottom edge, we're gonna have four, seven m
