Saving Our Legacy, African Americans for Smoke Free Safe Places, The SOL Project, hosted a virtual training featuring guest speaker Tim Gibbs, Founder of Endgame Messaging Hub. This session is designed for interns, community engagement coordinators, advocates, and California Tobacco Prevention Program (CTPP) funded programs interested in strengthening their ability to engage elected officials and advance tobacco related public health policy through education and relationship building. Building effective and respected relationships with decision makers is essential to advancing tobacco prevention and endgame goals. This training will focus on how to become a trusted partner whose emails and phone calls receive prompt and thoughtful attention. Participants will learn how to: • Understand the difference between education and lobbying and remain compliant while still being impactful • Frame public health information in ways that resonate with elected officials and their staff • Build long term, respectful working relationships with decision makers and policy staff • Position their program as a reliable source for data, context, and community insight • Advance endgame goals through education, timing, and relationship building rather than transactional requests The training will also highlight real world examples of programs that have successfully navigated complex policy environments, maintained credibility, and influenced outcomes by prioritizing education, consistency, and trust. This session is ideal for those wanting to strengthen their engagement approach, improve responsiveness from decision makers, and build durable partnerships that support long term public health progress.
