The 1862 Italianate Home That Deserves a Second Chance

For the last four years, I’ve driven by this beautiful 1862 Italianate home nearby my small town, always wondering about its story and hoping someone would save it. Recently, I noticed the yard was being cleaned up, and my heart sank. It reminded me of the Broken Heart House in Marshalltown a historic home that was torn down that we fought so hard to save, but it wasnt until it was to late, people cared. That loss inspired me to start my nonprofit, Endangered Places, to help save and restore historic homes and structures before they’re gone forever. Reaching out to the family of this home was nerve wracking, but they were so kind and they want to see this house restored too. No vinyl windows, no gut jobs just careful restoration and respect for its history.
