SOUNDBITE: (English) Elizabeth Gibson, demonstrator "My personal freedom, my money, perhaps a little bit of time is worth far less than the number of lives that could be lost in this war. Far less than at least making it known to the world that the American people are largely not behind this war." 15. Demonstrators chanting 16. SOUNDBITE: (English) Amy, demonstrator "Well, I mean I'm not a fan of Saddam Hussein but I think this war is going to target the people who have already suffered a lot. They've suffered from our sanctions, and they've suffered from a lot of things. And, I don't think they should suffer any more and a war isn't going to help. And, I just, you see from what Bush says, its going to last a long time and we want to stay in there." 17. Wide view of demonstrators in Lafayette Park STORYLINE: Several hundred anti-war demonstrators assembled across the street from the White House on Wednesday afternoon. It was one of a number of protests held around the country to show opposition to military action against Iraq. At the Washington protest a small group of protestors jumped the barricade fence and held a sit-in protest in the middle of Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House before being arrested and taken away by police. At the other end of Lafayette Park, police offices and mounted police kept demonstrators off park grounds. Demonstrators chanted, "Not my President, Not my War," and "We're going to attack Iraq, what do we do ... fight back." Many of the demonstrators have been in Washington since Saturday when several thousand protestors converged on the Capitol Mall and marched to the White House.
