Decomposed body found in Somerset County still unidentified, open and active death investigation

A decomposed body that was discovered Friday evening near the 700 block of North Center Avenue in Somerset Borough remains unidentified. The body was found in an area surrounded by several restaurants and hotels, but authorities have yet to determine how long it had been there due to its decayed state. "The cause and manner and identification is still pending on that discovery," Somerset County district attorney Molly Metzgar says. "Due to the state of decomposition of the body it was very difficult to determine those factors. There was an autopsy performed. The findings were undetermined." The body being transported to Dr. Dirkmaat up at Mercyhurst University would be the next step according to Metzgar. Dirkmaat, a forensic anthropologist, is expected to examine the body further to uncover more information about the death.
