I actually still have footage of me opening this game up as a gift for Christmas! Oh, if I only knew... This game is such garbage that I can't believe Nintendo allowed it to release. As if the whole game isn't enough of a slap in the dick, if you fail the final Delorean stage, which is also terrible, the game ends no matter how many lives you have and you gotta start all over. Truly the worst Back to the Future for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is a 1989 action game developed by Beam Software and published by LJN, based on the popular 1985 film. The game loosely follows the movie’s plot, with players controlling Marty McFly as he races against time to ensure his parents fall in love before he disappears from existence. The gameplay consists of a series of fast-paced, arcade-style levels. Most of the game features an overhead-view, auto-scrolling format where Marty must navigate the streets of Hill Valley while avoiding obstacles and collecting clocks to prevent his photo (representing his existence) from fading. Additional mini-games include throwing milkshakes at bullies in the diner, blocking kisses in a classroom, and a rhythm-based guitar segment where Marty must keep his parents dancing at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance. The game received criticism for its repetitive gameplay, loose connection to the film, and frustrating difficulty, but it remains a nostalgic piece of NES history for fans of the franchise.
