I detuned a bunch of separate melodies to make them stand out and to keep them from resonating with each other. This is something I've seen the 8-bit games do but I haven't really found out what the reasoning is, it looks like they detune a few specific notes only, but not throughout all sections. Here, I detuned things because the melodies are supposed to be followed separately, but when they harmonized they felt like they were intertwining into one voice, and detuning breaks that connection. I also added a long hi-hat for the noise channel, all it does is emphasize the beat. The version in the video is entirely based on the Sonic 3 prototype because it sounds better. The PC version is also included in the download, it has a faster tempo and some notes are different.
