From Dough to Soup | Ash Khamiri on a Rainy Village Day

On a rainy village day, while the sound of wind and falling rain fills the air 🌧️, we continue our daily life on our small rural farm. Before coming inside, we feed and water our cows, making sure everything is ready despite the weather. Inside our mud house, a large pot sits over a wood fire 🔥. My sisters-in-law knead the wheat dough by hand while my mother helps prepare the ingredients. The dough is rolled and cut into small pieces before being slowly cooked into Ash Khamiri — a traditional Afghan wheat dough soup. As the rain continues outside, the warmth of the fire fills our home. In the evening, our 16-person family gathers together to share the meal we prepared. Life on our village farm is simple, hardworking, and centered around family, tradition, and togetherness. From caring for animals to cooking over firewood, this is real village farm life in rural Afghanistan — honest and unfiltered.
