This stone is the first ever significant Argyle pink diamond discovered in Australia. It was polished from bulk samples before it was sure the Argyle mine would actually exist. This gives the stone unprecedented historical provenance. I have reliable supporting documentation from Ewen Tyler, the Father of Diamond Mining in Australia, and the original owner Bill Leslie, a Director of the prospecting joint venture at the time. The rough diamond was smuggled to London by Harry Oppenheimer, Chairman of De Beers, who was in Australia to negotiate the managing the sale of diamonds from this prospective new mine. Harry passed the diamond to Stuart Devlin, then a jeweller to the Crown and the designer of the cute animals on Australian coins. Stuart supervised the cutting and polishing of this magnificent diamond in London.
