I arrived at Shin-Osaka Station on the Nozomi bullet train and took the Midosuji Line to Umeda Station (Osaka Station). Umeda, north of Osaka Station, was a big city with big department stores such as Daimaru Umeda, Hankyu Umeda and Hanshin Umeda, and shopping malls such as Grand Front Osaka Tower. Hankyu's HEP FIVE building has a large red Ferris wheel, one of the largest in Japan for a building. There are many stations, including JR Osaka Station, Umeda Station on the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line, Higashi Umeda Station on the Tanimachi Line, Nishi Umeda Station on the Yotsubashi Line, and Osaka Umeda Station on the Hankyu Line. First, we went to Negi-yaki Yamamoto. It is said to be the birthplace of Negiyaki and the secret taste of Naniwa. I had my first taste of the delicious negi-yaki at the Umeda Est branch. Compared to Tokyo, Osaka also has areas where smoking is not allowed indoors or on the streets, but other than that, I was surprised by the high rate of smoking in many parts of the city, including smoking on the streets, walking, and smoking on bicycles. In the evening, we enjoyed delicious tequila, salsa dancing, and Latin music at Shall we dance cafe, a Latin bar in Usagano-cho (a town with many bars, boutique hotels, and love hotels...). The Sonezaki Ohatsu Tenjin Street shopping street is a place that I have fond memories of, where I first ate kushikatsu (skewered pork cutlet) and susu udon (udon noodles) when I first arrived in Osaka before. It is a shopping street with an open-air shrine (Ohatsu Tenjin, Ohaten) associated with Chikamatsu Monzaemon's Sonezaki Shinju. It used to be called Suzuran Dori or Sonezaki Center Street. The nearby Hankyu Higashidori shopping street is also a very long east-west shopping street that gives you a sense of Osaka. The Umeda Sky Building in Umeda City is a famous observation spot with its high-rise hanging garden observatory. In the basement, there is the Showa retro shopping street Takimi Koji, which recreates the old streets of the Showa era and is lined with restaurants and stores. Among them, I had a modern-yaki and a fluffy okonomiyaki with squid and pork at the famous Umeda okonomiyaki restaurant, Kiji Umeda Sky Building. The owner is an elderly man who has been cooking okonomiyaki in Umeda for many years, and the taste is exceptional. I will go back to eat there again, so live long! Okonomiyaki Kiji's main restaurant is located in Shin Umeda Shokudo-gai, a popular restaurant with a long line of customers and famous for being the best place in Osaka for toasting. There is also a Shinagawa branch in Tokyo, a Marunouchi branch that was listed on the Michelin list in 2015, and Wataru Toda's Okonomiyaki Sante Kan in Roppongi, which I'll try next time. There were also areas with greenery outside, such as the Middle Nature Forest and Hanano New Satoyama. The hotel we stayed at in Osaka was the Hotel Ibis Osaka Umeda, which costs about 4,000 yen per night. The rooms are a little small, but they are very clean, well equipped, and the coffee in the room is delicious! And best of all, it's connected to the underground mall, so even if it rains, it's safe and the location was perfect for sightseeing. There is also a casual and stylish cafe/restaurant called COOKPARK. When I come to Umeda, I have the feeling that I am in Osaka again.
