🎯 Recommended for these people 🛠 Field workers in charge of pipe management after hydrotest ⚙️ Engineers who need to consider corrosion resistance when designing plant pipes 🧫 Inspectors or supervisors who are new to the MIC phenomenon 🧠 Everyone who performs non-destructive testing (NDE) and material management 👷‍♂️ In this video, we will explain in an easy-to-understand way from the principles of *microbial corrosion (MIC)* to practical countermeasures that occur after hydrotest. Corrosion that is more dangerous than it is visible! MIC, which is also warned about in ASME B31.3, is now properly known and prevented! 🦠 What is MIC? MIC (Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion) refers to the phenomenon in which metals are corroded by the activity of bacteria or microorganisms. Main causes: Sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB), iron-oxidizing bacteria (IOB), manganese-oxidizing bacteria, sulfur-oxidizing bacteria (SOB) Affected environment: moisture, stagnant water, residual inside the pipe after hydrotest using natural water Possible corrosion range: almost all metals such as carbon steel, stainless steel, copper alloy, aluminum alloy, etc. 💥 Why MIC is dangerous 🔬 Difficult to distinguish with the naked eye → Penetrating corrosion occurs inside ⚠️ Occurrence frequency ↑ when the pipe is not dried after hydrotest 🔩 Concentrated attack on stainless steel welds → 5mm thick tanks can be perforated within a month 🛡️ MIC prevention and response tips ✅ Completely drain and dry the inside of the pipe after hydrotest 🧪 Perform microbiological analysis such as SRB Test (site-specific sampling) 💉 Bacterial destruction treatment by injecting Biocide (disinfectant) 🔁 Regular flushing and mechanical cleaning 🛠 Protect the inside with painting or internal lining 📊 Utilizing corrosion prediction simulation such as PipelineCompass 📘 ASME B31.3 standard mention (F345.4.1) “MIC may occur depending on the fluid characteristics used in hydrotest.
